Marble Rush
I'm excited to introduce Marble Rush, an arcade-style platformer game. Here, you can learn more about the project!
Marble Rush is a platform-style game created as a group project during a game jam in under 48 hours ! The theme of this jam was "In less than 60 seconds", so we decided to go with the concept of a pinball combined with an obstacle-filled race. We want you to have fun in a retro world and play a new version of pinball to test your speed. The goal is very simple: stay on the track for as long as possible within the 60 seconds to achieve the highest score.
For this game, we decided to use physics to move our small ball. This means that the faster you go, the harder it will be to control. This adds a fun element to the game as well as a touch of difficulty to what might seem like a simple game!
There are also obstacles that will slow you down, but portals that will be your best allies!
During this Game Jam, there were two of us developers. I mainly took care of the player, some of the traps, and the score management. Now, I will show you this !
The movements of the ball...
with physics
The movement principles are very simple. You move normally, but the longer you hold your joystick or keyboard key in the desired direction, the more forces will be applied to your ball, increasing its speed up to a certain maximum. If you hit an obstacle, your ball will slow down and either bounce or be ejected, depending on the obstacle.
Flipper Trap
Flippers will push the player backward and make you lose time.
Bumper Trap
Bumpers will push the player and also cause a loss of time.
