Emotea

Here, you'll learn more about Emotea and the work I contributed to the project !

The game was developed as a team during the Global Game Jam 2025, based on the theme 'Bubble'.

We came up with a concept inspired by games like Overcooked, where the goal is to prepare bubble teas but with a twist: you’re mixing emotion bubbles instead of traditional ingredients!

You play as a bubble tea maker living in a neutral world where people feel no emotions.

Your mission is to craft the best emotion-infused bubble teas to help people finally feel something again and bring color and joy back into their lives !

On Emotea, I worked on the recipe system, the emotional effects on the player, and the co-op mode. Let me show you how it all works below.

Recipe System

The recipe system is based on three core emotions: Joy, Love, and Anger. Each recipe is predefined some are simple, requiring just one emotion, while others are more complex and demand a mix of all three, like the example shown here. Recipes appear randomly and vary depending on the selected difficulty mode (Easy, Normal, or Hard). To complete a bubble tea, players must follow the recipe by placing the correct emotions into the mixer, then serve it in a cup to finalize the order.

Perfect Recipe

If a recipe is completed perfectly and delivered on time, you'll earn points ! As a bonus, serving it early grants extra points based on the recipe’s difficulty : for example, a simple recipe will score 1.25x more if delivered ahead of time.

Wrong Recipe

However, if you make a mistake and your mix doesn’t match any recipe, you’ll lose points !

The different effects of emotions

When the player holds an emotion, it affects their movement in different ways. For example, holding Joy makes the player move faster and do little jumps, making controls harder to manage. Anger disrupts movement, making actions less precise. Finally, Love causes the player to spin and slows them down !
